FAQ

Most commonly asked questions regarding floral preservation:

1. What is the process for preserving my flowers and how long does it take?

At Bella Floral Designs we preserve flowers using silica gel crystals. The crystals are fine grinds that absorb the moisture from your flowers. All flowers have to be separated when put in the crystals. Crystals need to be sprinkled in-between all the petals. The length of time for preservation depends on the size of the flower. Smaller flowers don’t take as long as larger flowers; that might take up to two weeks.

2. Do the flowers change color and can all flowers be preserved?

Most flowers preserve beautifully. Flowers preserved in their peek preserve the best. Flowers that are more delicate have to be handled with care when being preserved. Freesias and tulip’s can become transparent due to the fact that the petals are thin. Dahlias, Daisy’s and Sunflower’s can shatter easily due to the petals being fragile. Some flowers will preserve darker than their original colour. White and cream flowers can turn a slight yellow color; an almost vintage look to them.

3. How soon do you need the flowers?

At Bella Floral Designs we can pick up your flowers or someone can drop them off to us the next day. You will want to get them to us as soon as possible for best results.

4. How should I care for my flowers?

You will want to keep your flowers in the fridge or in a cool place. You want to make sure that the flowers do not freeze. Hand-tied bouquets need to be placed in water; you might even need to trim the stems. You also want to make sure that your flowers are not handled too much so they don’t bruise and that they are also not in the sun for extended periods of time. The heat can really be damaging to the flowers.
